TCU women's tennis triumphs over No. 17 Vanderbilt, 5-2
Feb. 3, 2007 MADISON, Wis. - The TCU women's tennis team defeated No. 17 Vanderbilt 5-2 on Saturday to conclude action at the USTA/ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championships. With the win, the Frogs improved to 1-2 on the season, while Vanderbilt fell to 2-4.
The Frogs swept the doubles event, as the No. 9 duo of Ana Cetnik and Anna Sydorska defeated the No. 19 tandem of Amanda Fish and Amanda Taylor 8-4. The duos of Kewa Nichols and Nina Munch-Soegaard and Karine Ionesco and Andrea Morgado also notched victories for TCU.
TCU senior Ana Cetnik recorded a singles victory over a ranked opponent for the third straight day, defeating No. 26 Amanda Fish 6-4, 7-6(2). No. 100 Anna Sydorska and Karine Ionesco both got into the win column for the first time this season, downing No. 24 Catherine Newman and Caroline Ferrell, respectively. Munch-Soegaard also recorded a singles victory, upsetting No. 57 Taka Bertrand 6-4, 5-7, 10-7. The win put Munch-Soegaard at 3-0 in singles play on the season, with two victories coming against nationally ranked opponents.
The women will return to action on Feb. 20, when they host Texas State at 11 a.m. and Texas-Arlington at 4 p.m.
