TCU Drops 4-1 Decision to No. 9 Alabama
Feb. 2, 2013 FORT WORTH - TCU's women's tennis team claimed the doubles point, but could not create momentum in singles and ultimately fell 4-1 to No. 9 Alabama on Saturday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The 38th-ranked Horned Frogs slipped to 3-1 on the year, while Alabama improved to 3-0. TCU got things going on the right foot in doubles, claiming wins at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles to take an early 1-0 lead. Gabi Barbosa and Simona Parajovawere first to win for the Frogs at No. 3 doubles, claiming an 8-3 win over Kasmeen Ebada and Natalia Maynetto. The Frogs' top tandem of Millie Nichols and Olivia Smithclinched the point when they took care of Alexa Guarachi and Maya Jensen, 8-4. The match at No. 2 doubles was stopped after the point was clinched. As singles began, the ninth-ranked Crimson Tide and their four ranked players in singles were too much for TCU as Emily Zabor knotted the score at 1 with a win over Gabi Barbosaat No. 5 singles. Antonia Foehse put the Tide ahead 2-1 with a win over Millie Nichols at No. 4 singles, then No. 13-ranked Guarchi made it 3-1 win her 6-4, 6-4 win over TCU's Parajova. No. 12-ranked Mary Anne Macfarlane, who was defeated by Stefanie Tana year ago, claimed the fourth and final point as the Tide took a 4-1 win from TCU. Smith, TCU's No. 3 singles player, claimed the first set, 6-4, from No. 59-ranked Jansen, but her match was called to a halt after the Tide scored the clinching fourth point.
