No. 25 TCU Upset by No. 74 DePaul
Jan. 31, 2014
FORT WORTH, Texas (January 31, 2014) – The No. 25 TCU women’s tennis team was upset 4-0 by No. 74 DePaul on Friday afternoon in Chicago, Ill.
Plagued by injuries during the match, the Horned Frogs (3-2, 0-0 Big 12) were not able to over come the Blue Demons (2-1, 0-0 Big East) and dropped only their second match of the season.
“We had bad luck. Stefanie (Tan) had to be pulled out of the singles and doubles because of an injury in warm ups. We started the match without her, but then early in the doubles matches, Simona (Parajova) got injured as well,” coach Dave Borelli said.
“We came up against a really good DePaul team today. They are much better than their ranking and they will be a top 40 team by the end of the year. Normally, you know at the beginning of the day who is going to play at what spot and it is easier to deal with, but we lost our top two kids and everyone was a little discombobulated. My biggest concern is to get the kids ready for the rest of the weekend. We have a long season ahead of us and this is tough.”
Due to a retirement on court two in doubles, DePaul got off to an early lead in the doubles race and finished off the completion of the point with a 6-3 win at the No. 1 position.
With the whole team moved up two positions, TCU struggled in singles action, as DePaul took three straight set wins to seal the team victory 4-0.
The Frogs now travel to West Lafayette, Ind., to take on the Purdue Boilermakers (1-1, 0-0 Big 10) on Saturday, Feb 1 at 11 a.m. TCU wraps up the trip with a match against the Illinois Illini (3-0, 0-0 Big 10) in Urbana, Ill., on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 11 a.m.
