Women's Tennis Topped by No. 20 Fresno State, 5-2

FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 56 TCU women's tennis team (0-2, 0-0 C-USA) dropped its second match of a three-match California road trip 5-2 on Sunday at 20th-ranked Fresno State (1-0). The Frogs saw their first wins in singles play of 2004 come against the Bulldogs.
Fresno State took the early lead with wins at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles, claiming the doubles point. TCU's second team of senior Saber Pierce and freshman Ana Cetnik earned the only Frog doubles win of the afternoon with their 9-7 win over Lucia Sainz and Katharina Winterhalter.
In singles play, junior Karla Mancinas picked up the first Frog point as Sainz went down with a sprained ankle three games into the No. 5 match and was forced to retire. Pierce topped Vlatka Jovanovic in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 4 to give TCU its other point. Senior Paty Aburto and Cetnik each took her opponent to three sets before falling.

The Frogs finish their California excursion with a match against the 2003 NCAA runner-up Stanford Cardinal on Monday, January 26. The Frogs' first home match comes Tuesday, February 10 against metroplex-foe SMU. Match time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on the TCU campus.
