Swimming and Diving Announces 2001-02 Schedule
Aug. 24, 2001 FORT WORTH, Texas -- In hopes of capturing the first-ever Conference USA swimming and diving title, TCU head coach Richard Sybesma announced the Horned Frogs' 2001-02 schedule Friday. The slate, which culminates with the inaugural C-USA Championships Feb. 17-19, 2002 in Indianapolis, features three of TCU's new conference foes and an impressive collection of non-conference opponents.
"I'm very excited about our schedule this season," Sybesma said. "I believe that the caliber of our opponents is one of the strongest we have ever faced and should be a great challenge for our swimmers."
Highlighting the non-conference portion of the schedule are early season home tilts with in-state powers Texas A&M and SMU, as well as a November trip to the midwest to face Valparaiso, Illinois-Chicago and perennial power Notre Dame. Additionally, the Frogs will close out the first half of its season with the UT Invitational in Austin, which will feature many of the nation's top teams.
In conference action, TCU will face-off versus three of its five new conference foes, hosting Saint Louis on November 2-3 while traveling to East Carolina on January 19 and Houston (women only) on January 25. In addition to visiting Louisville last year, the Frogs will have faced every C-USA opponent but Cincinnati before the season-ending conference meet.
In addition to facing top competition, the Frogs will also have an opportunity to compete in two of the finest facilities in the country, the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis (C-USA Championships) and Texas' Lee and Joe Jamail Swimming Center (UT Invitational).
The schedule has an unusual twist in that the Frogs will hold all of their home meets by November 10, due to renovation of TCU's Rickel Center. The season kicks off on October 25 at 4 p.m. versus Texas A&M at the Rickel Center.
