Men Continue to Lead C-USA Invite, Women Remain in Third at League Championships
Feb. 24, 2003 INDIANAPOLIS - The TCU men's swimming and diving squad moved one step closer to claiming its second-straight Conference USA Invitational title while the Horned Frog women remained within striking distance of the C-USA Championship in day two of the meets at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis. On the men's side, TCU holds a 85.5-point lead (597-511.5) over second-place East Carolina with one day remaining in the meet. The Lady Frogs are still in contention for the league title as they stand in third place with a total of 435, 82.5 points behind the front-runners from ECU. Highlighting the day for the Horned Frogs were a pair of one-two finishes in the 100-yard backstroke. On the men's side, sophomore Craig Chapman (San Antonio, Texas/Robert E. Lee) won his first-ever crown at the C-USA Invite in :49.09, edging teammate and defending title-holder Aaron Ewert's (Dallas, Texas/Garland) time of :50.22. Chapman's mark was also good for an NCAA B-cut qualification. For the women, sophomores Aimee Moreau (Kenner, La./St. Martin's Episcopal) and Tiffany Strawn (Katy, Texas/James E. Taylor) completed the TCU domination in the 100 back, as the pair finished first and second with times of :56.88 and :57.46, respectively. The league championship was the first individual title of Moreau's career. Rounding out day-two triumphs for TCU was Jennifer Antisdale (Sammamish, Wash./Skyline), as the freshman won her first league crown by taking the 200 freestyle in 1:51.62. The TCU men will look to hold on and the Lady Frogs will try for a final-day rally as the C-USA meets wrap up on Tuesday. |
