The TCU Horned Frogs soccer team hits the road for two matches hoping to solidify a top spot in the upcoming Conference USA Post-season Tournament. The Frogs head to UAB for a Friday match-up beginning at 7:00 at the West Campus Field. After an off day on Saturday, TCU returns to the pitch to face USF. Game time in Tampa is set for 1:00 at the USF Soccer Stadium
The Frogs are coming off two conference wins this past weekend, that extended the conference win streak to five in a row and put them at the top of the leader board in Conference USA. TCU defeated both Southern Miss and Tulane 2-0, helping Katie Buchanan earn Conference USA Defender of the Week.
News & Notes:
Tough In Goal
*Katie Buchanan made the most of her 180 minutes in goal this weekend as she blanked both opponents. Thanks to the defense in front of her, Buchanan had to make only five saves the entire weekend. Her two shutouts this weekend give her a total of 4.5 this season.
Moore Scores
*Jessi Moore connected twice this weekend, once in each game, helping the Frogs to two conference victories. Both of her goals proved to be the game-winner in each contest. She has three game-winners on the season. She is tied for the team lead with 15 points, six goals and three assists.
Frogs Leap Into First Place
*For the first time is school history, the Horned Frogs are sitting atop the leader board in the conference. The six wins the Frogs have picked up are a school record. TCU is almost assured a bid in the conference tournament, as no team has been denied a berth with six or more wins.
Second Half Dominance
*The second half proved to be the break-out half for the Frogs this past weekend. TCU scored three goals and tallied five assists in the half. They also outshot their opponents 22-8 and 12-3 in shots on goal. On the season TCU has outshot their opponents 93-85 and has a 31-21 advantage in the shots on goal category.
TCU vs. UAB
*TCU is winless in two tries against the Blazers. UAB picked up a 2-1, double overtime victory in 2001 in Alabama. Last season, they recorded a 5-3 victory in Fort Worth. Cara Toulouse scored twice and Elizabeth Walsh scored once in the loss on October 13, 2002.
Scouting The Blazers
*The Blazers have been a strong team all season as they enter the weekend with a 10-4 overall record, with two of their losses coming against nationally ranked opponents, Auburn and Clemson. They got off to a good start in conference as they won their first three contest and are currently fifth in the standings at 5-2-0. The are led by Tara Kidwell's eight goals. Katie Forbis has been strong in goal as well, with a 0.86 GAA.
TCU vs. USF
*Sunday's meeting with the Bulls will be the third one between the schools. TCU holds a 1-0-1 advantage in those meetings. Both games have been an offensive battle, as TCU topped the Bulls in Tampa, 4-3 in 2001 and tied in Fort Worth, 3-3. Jenny Swanson has tallied two goals against the Bulls, both coming in 2001.
Scouting The Bulls
*The Bulls have relied heavily on goalkeeper Breck Bankester this season. She has made 85 stops between the pipes, playing every minute of the season. They are sitting in seventh place in the C-USA standings with a 4-2-1 record. The goals have been few for the Bulls as they have tallied only 17 on the season. Leading the way is Jenny Mulvihill with four goals and two assists. But the defense has been solid, allowing only 17 goals.
