Horned Frogs and Panthers to battle on Wednesday morning

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU soccer program opens the month of October with matches against Prairie View A&M on Wednesday and Mountain West foe Air Force on Saturday. Start time for the contest against the Panthers is set for 11:30 a.m. at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium, while the match against the Falcons will begin at 7 p.m. in Fort Worth.

Last week, Prairie View A&M (2-7-0) fell to Jackson State, 5-1. The Panthers on Sept. 28 upended Southern University in a double overtime contest, 2-1.

Air Force (2-6-2) comes into this Saturday's match having won the Falcon Invitational, despite falling to UC-Irvine, 2-1, on Sunday. Air Force will open Mountain West Conference play against the Horned Frogs.

Scouting TCU (4-6-0)
TCU (4-6-0) comes into this week having upended Houston on Sunday, 1-0. The Horned Frogs, who are currently 3-2-0 at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium, opened last week, falling to Colorado College, 1-0. TCU tallied 42 shot attempts last weekend overall.

The Horned Frogs are led on offense by freshman Jackie Torda. Torda at the halfway point of the season has netted six goals, while also posting two assists.

Scouting Prairie View A&M (2-7-0)
Prairie View A&M (2-7-0) has posted victories over Texas Southern and Southern University this fall. Each of the Panthers wins have come in double overtime on the road.

Prairie View, who is 2-0 in conference play, has netted eight goals this fall on 68 shot attempts. They are led on offense by Angelica Diaz. Diaz has posted two goals and one assist this season.

On defense, Jessica Garcia has started eight game between the pipes and recorded 22 saves entering this weekend.

Scouting Air Force (2-6-2)
Air Force (2-6-2) opened the Falcon Invite, dropping North Dakota State, 5-1. The Falcons, who defeated Davidson 1-0 on Sept. 7, posted 0-0 draws against McNeese State and Army midway through September.

Before upending North Dakota State last weekend, Air Force dropped three straight matches, including a 1-0 overtime setback to Northern Iowa.

 

 

The Series
Wednesday's match against Prairie View will mark the first meeting between the two schools.

Saturday's matchup against Air Force is the sixth meeting between the two Mountain West Conference opponents. TCU holds a 3-1-1 record against the Falcons and has won or tied the last four meetings, including a 0-0 tie last fall in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Today's match against Prairie View A&M will mark FWISD day at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.

All FWISD elementary school's will be given free admission to the Horned Frogs 11:30 a.m. contest.

The match against Air Force will mark Military Appreciation Night at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.

A Nice Run
Freshman forward Jackie Torda has had a nice run midway through the 2007 season. The Colleyville native has connected on goals in three of the last five contests.

Overall, Torda leads the Horned Frogs with six goals on the season and currently ranks third in the MWC in goals per game (0.60).

TCU Weekly Awards
Both Jackie Torda and Kelsey Vross picked up TCU awards this week by being named Gulliver Travel Road Warrior of the Week and TCU Athlete of the Week, respectively.

Last week, Vross, the Spring native, collected her first shutout of the season against Houston by stopping three balls, while Torda connected on the game-winner against the Cougars on Sunday.

Dominate Defense
Against Colorado College and Houston, TCU's defense held both schools scoreless, only giving up an own goal against CC. Overall, the Horned Frogs recorded a 0.49 GAA on a combined 14 shot attempts. For the week, TCU played strong defense, holding both schools to only five shots on goal.

Shots Galore
TCU combined to post 42 shot attempts against Colorado College and Houston this past weekend. The 42 shot attempts was the largest two-match total since TCU posted 47 combined shot attempts against UT-San Antonio and Rice earlier this fall.

Overall, TCU has recorded 161 shot attempts through 10 games.

Offensive Ball Movement
Ten games into the 2007 season, TCU has recorded 13 goals on 11 assists.

After 10 matches last fall, the Horned Frogs posted 14 goals on five assists. Then junior midfielder Lauren Pope was TCU's leader on offense with four goals and one assist.

Overall, six of TCU's first 14 goals last fall came against Oral Roberts. Extra Sessions For The Frogs

TCU's double overtime match against Houston last week marked the Horned Frog's third overtime contest this fall. The frogs are 1-2-0 in overtime contests this fall.

Overall, TCU is 1-2-4 in overtime matches the past two seasons. TCU played in four extra periods last fall. All four of those matches ended in a draw.

Playing Against The Best
TCU has played three ranked opponents this fall in No. 22 Oklahoma State (exhibition), No. 3 Texas and No. 14 Missouri. In addition, TCU's Oct. 11 match against No. 19 BYU will mark the fourth NSCAA ranked opponent the Horned Frogs will face this season.

TCU In The Mountain West
So far during the 2007 season, sophomore forward Lizzy Karoly is first in the MWC standings for shots (39) and shots per game (3.90).

As a team, TCU ranks fourth in the MWC in goals (13), second in shots (161) and third in assists (11). On defense, TCU is currently first in saves (64).

Next Opponent
TCU will go back on the road to face BYU on Oct. 11. The match is set for 7 p.m. (MT) at BYU South Soccer Stadium in Provo, Utah.
