TCU women's soccer coach Eric Bell
announced the 2014 recruiting class. In total, the Horned Frogs will welcome 13 athletes from coast to coast to campus in the fall.
The class features three athletes from the states of Texas and California, two from Colorado and one each from Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois and Michigan.
Inking letters were: Leslie Bonner (MF; Houston, Texas), Jill Finnerty (MF; Highlands Ranch, Colo.), Allison Ganter (F; Dallas, Texas), Kela Gray (F; Chicago, Ill.), Courtney Hofer (GK; Farmington, Conn.), Brooke Ingram (F; Austin, Texas), Bella Kubo (MF; Rochester Hills, Mich.), Maddie Marotta (MF; Scottsdale, Ariz.), McKenna Roth (D; Coto de Caza, Calif.), Kate Sasser (D; Santa Ana, Calif.), Eryn Spencer (MF; Valencia, Calif.), Tanner Wallace (D; Ponte Verda Beach, Fla.) and Ryan Williams (F, Centennial, Colo.).
"We are very excited about the incoming class," said Bell. "I think this class will continue to build on the foundation of what we did in 2013. We have a lot of very good players that will provide us different types of depth in our team. Most of the kids come from successful clubs which will help with our mentality and hopefully leading to us being more successful on the field."
Leslie Bonner MF 5-6 Houston, Texas (Memorial HS)
Played club soccer for the Albion Hurricanes and coach Danny Hill... as a member of the Hurricanes travel squad, she helped lead her team to the 2012 state championship... spent two years as a member of the USYSA League and two at the ECNL level... played four years as a member of the South Texas Youth Development Program... represented Region III South Texas at out-of-state summer camps... was a four year player on the varsity squad at Memorial High School... earned first-team all-district accolades as a senior.
Bell on Bonner:
"Leslie will always have a special place in my heart. She was the first camper we ever had register for my camp. She is a hard-nosed kid who will bring a physical element to our team. She's a strong player physically and very competitive. A great kid on and off the field. Looking forward to having an opportunity to work with her."
Jill Finnerty MF 5-7 Highlands Ranch, Colo. (Rock Canyon HS)
Was a stand-out club performer for Real Colorado and coach Lorne Donaldson... squad was a U12 Colorado Cup Finalist and a wild card at the regionals... helped her team win the U15 Colorado State Cup... was part of the ECNL player development program from 2009-14... earned four varsity letters at Rock Canyon... started every game as a freshman and helped lead her team to the state quarterfinals... scored a goal and tallied 11 assists as a sophomore en route to earning second-team all-conference accolades... was also named co-defensive MVP as her squad was a state semi-finalist... had three goals and seven assists as a junior... named first-team all-conference, second-team all-state... also earned academic all-state honors... as a senior was honored for Women's Sports in Douglas county.
Bell on Finnerty:
"I think I fell in love with Jill the first time I saw her play. She's a central midfield player who is very versatile, very good on the ball with great soccer sense. She's also a very good athlete. Looking forward to her to having an impact on what we are trying to do on and off the field."
Allison Ganter F 5-5 Dallas, Texas (Bishop Lynch HS)
Had lots of success with her Dallas Sting Soccer Club, the same club that produced current Horned Frog Meghan Murphy, under the guidance of coach Tatu Pecorari... had eight goals and two assists in 2012-13 and was tied for the second leading scorer after the fall of 2013 with six goals and two assists... in 2010, Sting was a finalist at the Texas Cup, the NTX State Cup... team won the USYS Region III Premier League West Champions, the USYS Region III Champions and a finalist at the USYS National Championships... in 2011, Sting was the LHGCL Division I Grand champions, the NTX State Cup champions, the USYS Region III champions en route to a third-place finish at the USYS National Championships... was a finalist at the 2012 ECNL National champions... won the 2013 ECNL Regional champions and a finalist at the ECNL National Champions... earned four varsity letters for Bishop Lynch High School in addition to playing club soccer... an offensive force in high school, scoring 39 goals and tallying 21 assists in her first three seasons... was a three-time first-team all-district and all-state performer... was named the TAPPS Offensive MVP as a junior.
Bell on Ganter:
"Another good, hard working, competitive kid who I see playing on the flank somewhere in the back or the midfield. She has the ability to run at players with the ball. She has a big engine to get up and down the field with deceiving speed. An overall very solid player who comes from a very good club team."
Kela Gray F 5-5 Chicago, Ill. (Mother McAuley Liberal Arts)
A member of the Eclipse Select Soccer Club, the same club team that produced current Horned Frogs Michelle Mottonen, Michelle Prokof and Lauren Sajewich... played for coach Rory Dames... club has already qualified for the 2014 ECNL National Championsips... was a standout varsity player at Mother McAuley Liberal Arts... named varsity MVP in 2012... was an IHSSCA all-sectional, all-GCAC and an all-area selection... scored 29 goals as a freshman and 27 goals as a sophomore.
Bell on Gray:
"She's a target forward that is big, strong and powerful. She does very well back to goal and holding defenders, shielding the ball and allowing her team to advance forward. She also has the ability in front of the goal to score goals and the ability to stretch teams with her speed."
Courtney Hofer GK 5-11 Farmington, Conn. (Farmington HS)
A standout goalkeeper for the SoccerPlus Elite club for coach Laura Duncan... she's already on campus... was a PDP participant in 2012 and earned U15 ECNL PDA College Showcase all-event team honors in 2011... captain of her U16 squad... earned high honor roll 2010-12... tabbed the Scholar-Athlete leader in 2010... earned two high school varsity letters.
Bell on Hofer:
"Already her on campus after graduating a semester early to join us this spring. She has great size and good hands with a big upside. Looking forward to having a chance to work with her this spring. She has a very good training mentality, always wants to train and get better. A good kid on and off the field that comes from a club that does well in producing goalkeepers."
Brooke Ingram F 5-9 Austin, Texas (Westwood HS)
Played club soccer for the Lonestar Soccer Club Premier League for coach Mark Carr... was a four-year varsity member at Westwood High School... earned second-team all-district honors in 2013... named team offensive MVP as a junior after leading the team in scoring.
Bell on Ingram:
"She was a late addition to our class. She's a very good passing player, very good on the ball and has very good ideas about the game. We are excited to have her join us."
Bella Kubo MF 5-7 Rochester Hills, Mich. (Rochester Adams HS)
Played club soccer for the Elite Girls Academy for coach Marcus Kelcher... guided her squad to the U16 state championship... finished her club career Vardar Soccer Club in Michigan under the guidance of Demir Muftari... also played four years of high school soccer, three at Millard West in Omaha, Neb. and one at Rochester Adams in Rochester Hills... earned four varsity letters between the two schools... was honorable mention all-state as a freshman... led her team in scoring with 17 goals as a sophomore... earned honorable mention all-state... ranked second on her team in scoring with 15 goals as a junior... named second-team all-state... helped her squad win the 2013 Nebraska State Class A championship.
Bell on Kubo:
"She's probably one of the hardest working kids I know. She will run through a brick wall for her teammates. She's a very good passing player with a good mentality. She comes from winning programs which will serve her well in our environment ."
Maddie Marotta MF 5-5 Scottsdale, Ariz. (Pinnacle HS)
A stand-out club performer for the Sereno Soccer Club and coach Paul Taylor... has been a member of the club for eight years... guided her squad to five Arizona State Championships... also helped her squad to ECNL Challenge B final in 2010-11... has three years of ODP experience with the Arizona 95 State Pool... earned three varsity letters at Pinnacle High School... was a three-year starter who helped lead her squad to a pair of state semi-finalist appearances... earned honorable mention all-Arizona as a junior... named the Pinnacle High School Junior Player of the Year.
Bell on Marotta:
"She's going to come here and compete for playing time. She's very hard working, good technically, good athlete, has a big engine and she can get up and down the field. She's a very good soccer player."
McKenna Roth D 5-6 Coto de Caza, Calif. (Santa Margarita Catholic HS)
Spent five seasons as a member of the Cal South ODP program... helped her team win the Region IV championship in 2010... also played at the ECNL level for the So Cal Blues and coach Larry Draluck... squad won three Surf Cup championships and was a finalist three other times... won the U15 Far West Regional League championship in 2010 and was a finalist for the USYS National League Regional Championship... participated in the ECNL U17 championships in Denver... won two Blues Cup championships... also played four years of high school soccer... earned scholar athlete award all four years... squad won three Trinity League Championships.
Bell on Roth:
"She's a left side player, good athlete and likes to get forward into the attack. She has a big engine and is a solid defender. Her brother, Austin, is currently a Horned Frog."
Kate Sassar D 5-8 Santa Ana, Calif. (Foothill HS)
Played club soccer for the Irvine Strikers FC ECNL squad for coach Steven Patterson... squad was a quarterfinalist for the Blues Cup in 2012... they were also finalists for the Surf Cup, the West Coast Futbol Classic and the Las Vegas Players Showcase in 2012... team was a National ECNL North American Championship qualifier in 2013... also played with the United FC White program tha won the US Youth Soccer National Cup in 2011, the Region IV Championship and the Cal South State Cup... also played four years of high school soccer and was co-captain of her squad on two occasions... helped lead her squad to a quartet of CIF Southern Section playoffs... won the Foothills Soccer Coach's award in 2011.
Bell on Sassar:
"She's a good athlete who is solid with the ball. She's a hard working kid coming off an injury. We are looking forward to having a chance to work with her."
Eryn Spencer MF 5-4 Valencia, Calif. (Valencia HS)
Played club soccer at Valley United for coach Hugh Donald... helped her squad to a semifinal appearance at the National Cup in 2012... club won the Premiere Coast Soccer league championships... was invited to participate in the Southern California ODP camp... was also a four-year letter winner and starter at Valencia High School... earned the Midfield Player of the Year in 2011 and 2013... tabbed the Offensive Player of the Year in 2012... selected as a first-team CIF Southern Section all-league player in 2012 and 2013... served as team captain as a senior.
Bell on Spencer:
"She's a very creative attacking player who sees things that a lot of kids her age don't see. We were impressed with her vision. She has the ability to create goal-scoring opportunities, but to also score in front of the goal. She has deceptive speed and is a good player that we are excited to have on our squad."
Tanner Wallace D 5-7 Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. (Episcopal School of Jacksonville)
Played club soccer for Creeks Krush and coach Dave Silverberg... helped lead her club to a district championship as a sophomore... squad was a regional finalist in her junior season... twice won the award for most minutes played during a season... captained her U17 club team... squad made it to the Florida State Cup round of 16... also played for the Creeks Krush U18 black squad... team was ranked No. 4 in Florida, #12 in Region 3 Premier League East and #54 in the nation... was a semifinalist at the Disney Soccer Showcase after winning the qualifier... as a member of the U16 Westside Lady Eagles, team traveled to England and won the Lincoln Football Cup... was a four-year starter at Episcopal School of Jacksonville... named team captain as a senior.
Bell on Wallace:
"A very athletic defender with good size and speed. She's solid in the air and a very good defender."
Ryan Williams F 5-7 Centennial, Colo. (Cherry Creek HS)
Played for the Colorado Rush ECNL team for coach Andrew Kummer... participated in the US Soccer ID2 twice in 2011... also participated in the ECNL PDP training... ranked No. 16 regionally by Top Drawer Soccer... was a four-year letterwinner at Cherry Creek High School... helped lead her team to the 5A state championship in 2012... named a captain her senior year... earned varsity MVP honors as a junior... was a two-time all-conference selection... tabbed an all-state honorable mention performer in 2013.
Bell on Williams:
"She's another one of our first campers that attended our College ID camp in 2013. She's a very creative, dynamic, attacking player. Her movements off the ball are quite good. She has good speed, good sense for the game and has the ability to score goals. She comes from a very competitive program with the Colorado Rush."
