Soccer honors 2008 season over weekend

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's soccer program held its first annual awards banquet this past weekend to honor a successful 2008 campaign.
TCU posted a program-best 14-4-2 record, including a 4-2-1 MWC record.
Overall, TCU climbed as high as No. 24 in the nation during the year, while placing three student-athletes on the all-conference squad, including the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year Jordan Calhoun.
On Friday, Calhoun, a 2008 Freshman All-American, took home three honors as she was named Newcomer of the Year, Co-Offensive MVP and received the Co-Citius, Altius, Forti award, which is the strength and conditioning award for the 2008 season.
Fellow forward, Lizzy Karoly also piled up the honors as she collected the Citius, Altius, Forti award, as well as the Co-Offensive MVP award.
Sophomore Cheryl Martin was honored with Defensive MVP honors, while freshman Chelsey Wilgenburg earned the Addy award, which is given out to the player that best demonstrates commitment, determination, character, heart and several other intangibles throughout the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Walters garnered the Purple Heart award. Finally, Julia Slater was honored last Friday night with the Academic award. Slater was presented the award by Senior Women's Administrator Kim Johnson for her excellence in the classroom.
