TCU head coach Dan Abdalla sat down with GoFrogs.com to give fans an inside look into how he spent his holiday season.

This is the first installment of Coach Abdalla's weekly journal as the Horned Frogs will open the spring season in February.

First Installment

The holidays were good. It is always nice to kind of sit back and spend some time with the family. Really, our team feels much more like a family now then it did two years ago when I got here. The last two to three weeks have really been all about that. We got a lot of Christmas cards from some of our former players which was nice, while many of our current players sent text messages to each other wishing everyone a happy new year. All of that was nice to see and goes to show that we are not only creating a winning soccer tradition here at TCU, but also a family environment.

As I look at the spring season, I think we have the kids in this program that can lead us to many championships. I don't think I have ever been this excited about a spring season. This will be the first spring in which everyone coming back will challenge for a starting spot. We have such a good core group of players that it is going to be fun to watch because they are all starting to get on the same page.

When the kids get back from Christmas break they will jump into the strength and conditioning program right away. The kids absolutely love Dr. Upton. He has worked at the highest level in the country with the MLS and will continue to make our program one of the most physically fit squads in the nation. We start practice on Feb. 11 and this will be a very good schedule for our girls to challenge themselves against. I am really excited because we face all types of competition from Big 12 to SEC.

Overall, I spent some time with the family and the little guy over break. We went to Disneyland and it was a lot of fun. I also got a chance to spend time with the Denver Nuggets. It was very interesting to sit down with the trainers and strength and conditioning staff of the Nuggets and see what they do from a workout standpoint at that level.
