Frog season comes to an end at the Mountain West Tournament
Nov. 2, 2005
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - UNLV's Katie Carney scored an early second-half goal to lift the Rebels over TCU, 3-0, Wednesday evening in game four of the Mountain West Conference's Soccer Championship in Las Vegas, Nev. For the Frogs, Bara Gunnarsdottir and Moran Lavi saw their careers come to an end. After a scoreless first half, the Rebels came out pushing for the early goal and it came less than two minutes in. Carney knocked the ball into an empty net for the game's first goal in the second half. Rebel midfielder Tanya Roberts played the ball toward the middle of the box and TCU goalkeeper Katy Buchanan misplayed the ball, giving Carney an open net for the goal at 46:05. The goal was the sixth of the year for Carney, the leading goal scorer for the Rebels. The Rebels (11-6-2) continued to keep the pressure on, scoring two more goals in a span of less than two minutes to put the game away, going up 3-0 with 20 minutes left. Partridge and Erica Frizzell each contributed a goal in the second half. "I am obviously disappointed that we lost," said TCU head coach Dan Abdalla. "Our kids left everything they had out on the field. They played as hard as they could and we just got beat." UNLV goalkeeper Jenna Huff needed to make one save and faced six shots in collecting her fifth shutout of the year. The shutout marked UNLV's 10th of the season, setting a school record. TCU's Buchanan made four saves in goal for the Horned Frogs (6-11). Angie Nickens and Bjarnveig Birgisdottir led the Frog attack with two shots apiece.
