Oct. 22, 2004
Fort Worth, Texas - The TCU Horned Frogs fell for the fourth consecutive time as they dropped a 2-0 decision to UAB on Friday afternoon at Garvey-Rosenthal. The Frogs were also shutout for the second consecutive game. TCU pushed hard in the waning moments of the contest but were unable to get the equalizer and UAB scored a late goal to put the game out of reach. Laura Greenberg had the best chance in the last few minutes, but Katie Forbis was there to knock it over the back of the net and out of danger.
The Blazers and the Frogs battled to a 0-0 tie in the first half as both teams played tight defense. Despite allowing five corners and 14 shots, the Frog defense held the Blazers to only four shots on goal.
TCU had the first chance of the game as they were pushing hard for that early goal. Eight minutes in, Ginny Hubbard headed a ball just out of reach of a wide-open Greenberg. A few minutes later, the Blazers had some golden opportunities of their own as they failed to capitalize on three consecutive corners.
TCU escaped a 1-0 deficit in the first period as Sally Palmer found herself wide-open with 15 minutes to go, but her shot drifted just wide of the net, keeping it a 0-0 game. Lindsay White did what she had to as she made four stops in the frame.
The Blazers didn't waste any time starting it up in the second half as they scored just 14 seconds in. Tara Kidwell fed the ball to a waiting Jenny Rynders, who turned and shot it past a diving White.
The Frogs battled the entire half, trying to get the equalizer. The Frogs had a great chance just following the goal on a corner kick. Jessi Moore fed the ball into the goal box where Karissa Hill was waiting. Hill got a head on the ball, but Forbis was there for the stop.
TCU kept pushing with the clock ticking away, but couldn't put it in the goal. With under 10 minutes to go, the Frogs controlled the ball and fired off two great shots, but Forbis was there for the save. Greenberg had the best chance of the entire game as she took a point-blank shot from the top of the box. Forbis was just able to get her fists on the ball to knock it over the back of the goal.
On the ensuing play, the Blazers blasted the ball down field where it was tracked down by Palmer. Palmer fed the ball through the legs of Jill Porto and right to a wide-open Laura Richards. Richards blasted the shot past White to put the game out of reach.
TCU will close out its home season on Sunday as they square off against USF. Match time for senior day is set for 1:00 p.m. at Garvey-Rosenthal. Following that contest, the Frogs will head to Louisville to close out the regular season on October 30.
