USAFA, Colo. - The TCU Horned Frogs secured their first-ever victory in Mountain West action with a 2-1 victory over Air Force Friday night. After a strong first half, the Frogs withstood a strong push from the Falcons to hold on for the one-goal victory.

The first half of play was dominated by the Frogs as they outshot the Falcons 7-5. When the Falcons had chances, the Frog defense forced off-angle and long shots, limiting the scoring opportunities. Air Force managed one shot on goal, a low shot that Frog goalkeeper Katy Buchanan easily corralled.

After a four-game scoring draught the Frogs offense broke through for two goals in the first half. The Frogs scoreless streak came to an end in the 12th minute of play when Bjarnveig Birgisdottir headed the ball past Falcon goalkeeper Jennifer Drew's outstretched hands. The Frogs were awarded a throw-in deep in their offensive zone. The ball bounced around between the two teams before Karissa Hill was able to track it down and she sent a perfect feed to Birgisdottir for the 1-0 lead.

The Frogs scoring chances kept coming as they forced Drew to make three tough saves before they were able to capitalize again. This time it was Colorado-native Leslie Parkinson who gave TCU a two-goal cushion. Moran Lavi fed the ball to Birgisdottir at the top of the 18-yard box. She passed the ball across to Parkinson at the top of the box and she ripped the shot over Drew's head for her first career goal.

The second half, the Falcons came out fired up, controlling the ball in their offensive zone. The pressure finally paid off in a goal on a misplayed throw in. Rhett Chase took the throw in that bounced around the mouth of the goal. Alison Wood was there to track down the loose ball and put it in to cut the Frog lead in half, 2-1.

The chances for Air Force kept piling up, but Buchanan was equal to the task making three saves in the half to help preserve the victory. The shots were even in the match at 10 apiece.

With the win, the Frogs improve to 6-8-0 overall and 1-4-0 in Mountain West play. TCU will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Laramie to meet the Wyoming Cowgirls. Match time is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
