Frogs Stumble At Tulane, Fall 4-1
Sept. 26, 2004
New Orleans, La. - The TCU Horned Frog women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to the Tulane Green Wave on Sunday afternoon. The Frogs went into the half, trailing 1-0, but evened the score 15 minutes into the half. A three-goal outburst late in the second half put away any hopes for the Frogs to pick up their second C-USA victory of the season. The Frogs wrapped up their five-game road trip with a 1-4 record.
Tulane came out shooting in the first half, collecting two quick shots in the first five minutes of the game. The Frogs and goalkeeper Ashley Pierret dodged a huge bullet as a Jackie Obert header glance off the cross bar and out of danger, keeping it a scoreless game.
The Green Wave finally connected in the 10th minute of the game. Rachel Thompson headed the ball past a diving Pierret off of a corner kick by Jaclyn Benjamin, putting Tulane up 1-0.
The score would remain the same for the rest of the half as the teams battled it out. Tulane controlled most of the half, outshooting TCU 7-2 in the half and Pierret was huge, keeping it a one-goal deficit as she made four saves in the half.
The Frogs were able to tie the game at one-all 15 minutes into the second half as Kim Ozenick scored her second goal of the season. Breanne Kaldheim delivered a long pass into the penalty area, where Ozenick was waiting to head it past Green Wave goalkeeper Megan Morey.
But four minutes later, the Green Wave regained the lead for good as Lindsay Morris raced past the Frog defenders and shot the ball past a diving Pierret for the 2-1 lead.
Tulane increased the lead in the 79th minute as they put up two scores in 32 seconds off of reserve goalkeeper, Lindsay White to put the game away.
Despite the Frogs and the Green Wave each taking four shots in the half, Tulane made three of them count as White recorded the only save in the half.
The Frogs (3-6, 1-1 C-USA) will return home next weekend for four straight matches. They host the Memphis Tigers on Friday afternoon at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium beginning at 4:00 p.m. On Sunday the Saint Louis Billikens come to town for a 1:00 p.m. match.
