Coulson Scores Game-Winner in Double Overtime Against Saint Louis
Sept. 23, 2001
SAINT LOUIS, Mo. (September 23, 2001) -- TCU senior Jenn Coulson's first goal of the season proved to be the game-winner for the Horned Frog women's soccer team Sunday afternoon against the Saint Louis Billikens, giving the Frogs their first-ever victory in Conference USA. Her goal came in the second overtime period during the 112th minute of play to lift TCU (3-4-0, 1-1-0) past Saint Louis (3-3-0, 1-1-0) 3-2. The loss was Saint Louis' first home C-USA loss in the school's history.
The Billikens struck first in the 3rd minute of play when sophomore Anny Lucier received a pass from junior Jenny Perry, dribbled between two TCU defenders and blasted a 10-yard shot past sophomore goalkeeper Shannon Wagner. It was Lucier's second consecutive game scoring a goal.
TCU freshman Laura Greenberg continued her goal-scoring barrage with two more against Saint Louis, both of which tied the match at 1-1 and 2-2. Greenberg's season total now stands at four, with all four coming in her last three matches. Senior Ali Schloegel was given credit for an assist on the California-native's first goal, while senior Crystal Pratz notched an assist on her second.
After Greenberg tied the game at 2-2 in the 70th minute, the match headed to overtime where Saint Louis out-shot the Frogs 5-3, but neither team tallied a goal.
In the second overtime, TCU senior Jenn Coulson challenged Saint Louis keeper Meghann Burke on a deep pass during the 112th minute and just beat her to the ball. Coulson proceeded to dribble around Burke and drove in the winning goal for the Frogs.
The win for TCU over Saint Louis, picked No. 2 in the Preseason C-USA Coaches' Poll, was dubbed by TCU head coach Dave Rubinson as, "A huge lift for our team. We came in here having lost three tough matches in a row and this really gave us a confidence boost today."
TCU will host C-USA foe Marquette this Friday, September 28, at 3 p.m. at the Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium in Fort Worth.
