TCU Falls To Baylor, 4-0
Sept. 14, 2003
Fort Worth, Texas - The TCU Horned Frogs soccer team dropped their final game of the TCU Tournament on Sunday at a muddy Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium. The Frogs allowed two goals in each half on the way to their third loss of the season.
The Frogs had two golden opportunities early in the first half to get the early lead, but couldn't find the back of the net. Just 35 seconds into the game, Jessi Moore had a wide open shot five yards out, but Baylor goalkeeper Monica Housden blocked the ball out of bounds. Elizabeth Walsh had a chance 11 minutes later on a give and go, but her shot was blocked out of bounds as well, keeping the Frogs scoreless.
Baylor turned on the pressure in the middle of the half, picking up two goals in a span of two minutes. Bears leading scorer Ginny Rosario-Tull connected first in the 18th minute off of a corner kick that she buried in the upper left-hand corner, giving Baylor a 1-0 lead. Just under two minutes later, Missy McConnell connected on a pass from Brittani Zonker putting the ball in the same place as the first goal, giving the Bears a two goal lead.
The Frogs put on the pressure late in the half, as Karissa Hill boomed a ball from 22 yards out that was smothered by the Bears goalkeeper. TCU outshot Baylor in the first half 6-5, but trailed where it counted heading into halftime. Housden made five saves in the half, holding the Horned Frogs scoreless through 45 minutes of play.
The Frogs tried to get back in the game early in the second half, putting the pressure on to open up the half. Hill saw another great shot knocked down by the Bears goalkeeper as she blasted a shot from 25 yards out, three minutes into the half. The Frogs only mustered two more shots the rest of the half, but both were on goal.
The Baylor Bears tacked on two more goals in the second half, as Zonker scored and McConnell picked up her second goal of the game. Zonker scored off of a Rosario-Tull deflected shot in the 70th minute and McConnell beat goalkeeper Katie Buchanan who misplayed the ball, leaving the net wide open for the final goal of the contest.
Jennifer Sims started the game in goal for the Frogs, allowing two goals and making one save. Buchanan allowed two goals and made four saves in the game. The Frogs were outshot in the game 13-9. Hill and Kim Thompson each took two shots to lead the Frogs in the game.
TCU, now 2-3-1 on the season, will open up Conference USA action on the road next weekend as they head to Cincinnati. Game time in Cincinnati is set for 6:00 (CST). On Sunday, the Frogs will face DePaul in a 1:00 kickoff.
