FORT WORTH, Texas - Sophomore Katie Taylor tied the ballgame at 3-3 in the 79th minute of the match, but it wasn't enough as the Horned Frogs dropped a 4-3 double overtime heartbreaker to the Red Raiders at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium Friday night.

In a back-and-fourth match in front of 1,935 spectators, Taylor, a sophomore from California, sent the contest into extra sessions, heading the ball past Texas Tech goalkeeper Erin Wikelius off a corner kick by fellow defender Alex Mechalske.

"We gave up two early goals, but after that I was really happy that we were able to scratch and fight our way back into the game," said head coach Dan Abdalla. "I thought we found out a lot about our team tonight. I am disappointed with the result, but we learned a lot about how we need to play this early in the season. Give credit to Texas Tech, they took advantage of the space we gave them tonight. We just have to keep working on things and continue to get better."

Following a heated first overtime, it appeared as if the game would end in a 3-3 draw, but the Red Raiders' Brittany Harrison got free behind the TCU defense, scoring the game-winning goal with only 30 seconds remaining in the match.

Harrison put the Red Raiders on the board first in the 13th minute off an assist by Taylor Lytle. Texas Tech increased the lead seven minutes later when Dawn Ward scored off a pass from Lytle.

In the 25th minute, Kristen Halverson tried to bring TCU within one, but watched as her shot was saved by a diving Wikelius. A few minutes later, Jordan Calhoun weaved her way through the Red Raider defense, but Wikelius came up with another big save to keep the score at 2-0 in favor of Texas Tech.

Sophomore Jenna Hayes put the Horned Frogs on the board in the 40th minute of the match off assists from Calhoun and junior Chelsea Cody. On the play, Cody received the pass from Calhoun and then proceeded to play the ball diagonally to a streaking Hayes who beat the Red Raider defense for her first goal of the 2009 season.

Following the 15-minute intermission, the Frogs got right to work off a corner kick. Taylor tried to head the ball into the back of the net inside the box, but her shot sailed high.

Texas Tech's Sara Ellison increased the Red Raider lead to 3-1 in the 47th minute off a cross from Tiffini Smith.

TCU then proceeded to go on the offensive attack as Halverson and freshman Leigha Leonard both connected on shots midway through the second half. Leonard appeared to have brought the Frogs within one in the 70th minute off a header from Halverson, but her shot was saved by Wikelius.

Two minute later, senior Lizzy Karoly netted her second goal of the season off a pass through the Red Raider defense from Calhoun.

Following the game-tying goal by Taylor, Kaylie Garcia, a sophomore from Oklahoma, appeared to have given TCU a 4-3 lead in the 79th minute off a free kick from Taylor, but the Horned Frogs were called for offsides on the play to send the match into overtime.

Both the Frogs and Red Raiders connected on one shot apiece in the first overtime session, but couldn't break the tie. Harrison ended the match in the second overtime, getting behind the TCU defense and just putting the ball into the back of the net over the outstretched arms of Kelsey Walters.

TCU, who outshot Texas Tech, 23-16, led the match in corner kicks, 8-5, including 5-2 in the second half. Taylor led the TCU offensive attack on the night with five shots, while Calhoun, Karoly and Halverson all posted three shots apiece.

On defense, Walters, who came up with several key stops on Friday, collected six saves on the night, while Wikelius saved five balls.

With her goal in the 73rd minute, Karoly moved into a tie with Sara Campbell for the all-time record in goals scored for a career with 24, while the match against the Red Raiders was the fifth largest crowd in TCU women's soccer history to ever witness a game at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.

The No. 26 Horned Frogs dropped to 3-1-0 on the year, while Texas Tech improved to 3-1-0.

TCU will be in action on Sunday at Rice. Start time is set for 6 p.m. in Houston.
