AUSTIN, Texas - Jenna Hayes netted a goal off an assist from Jackie Torda with three minutes remaining in the contest, but it wasn't enough as TCU dropped a 3-1 season opening match to No. 9 Texas Friday night at Mike A. Myers stadium.

"I think it was a learning experience for us. I thought we played a good game against one of the better teams in the country," said head coach Dan Abdalla.

In the first half, sophomore Lizzy Karoly looked to put the Horned Frogs on the board early, but saw her shot blocked by the Longhorn defense. Three minutes later, Karoly missed another opportunity as she watched her shot sail high.

Longhorn forward Kasey Moore put Texas on the board 26 minutes into the contest, beating sophomore Kelsey Vross from 10 yards out. Chelsea Cody, an Oklahoma City, Okla., native, tried to answer right back, but was unable to find the back of the net.

Following a 1 hour, 40 minute, lightening delay, Texas' Kelsey Carpenter netted a goal with 6 seconds remaining before halftime to make the contest 2-0 at the half.

After the half, Michelle Nguyen, a sophomore from Richardson, connected on a ball from outside the box, but couldn't put TCU on the board.

Following a Longhorn insurance goal, Hayes scored the Horned Frogs lone goal off an assist from Torda to close out the night.

Overall, TCU posted 13 shots in the match, including seven in the second half. The Horned Frogs were led on offense by Karoly, who recorded five shots, while Nguyen chipped in with two.

On defense, Kelsey Vross stopped 12 balls, including six in the second period.

TCU will be back in action Sunday against Utah State. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m. at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
