FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Horned Frogs picked up their second exhibition win of 2005 with a 3-0 shutout of Texas Woman's Sunday afternoon at Garvey-Rosenthal. Angie Nickens scored twice and Caroline Starns tallied two assists to lead the Frogs to victory. The Frogs outshot the Pioneers 26-7, while Katy Buchanan stopped three shots for the Frogs.

"It was a good, competitive game which is what we really needed at this point," remarked coach Dan Abdalla. "It took us a while to get into the rhythm of the match which is a credit to the other team. I was glad to see our patience get stronger as the match went on."

Texas Woman's took control early on in the match, firing off the contest's first shot on goal that Buchanan was able to stop. After the early push by the Pioneers, the Frogs settled into a good offensive rhythm as they were able to keep possession of the ball.

Twelve minutes into the match, the Frogs had a great chance to break the 0-0 tie on a corner kick. Ginny Hubbard took the corner for the Frogs and placed it perfectly for a Nickens header, but Pioneers' goalkeeper Aly Vincent was there for the stop.

The Frogs finally connected in the 29th minute. Nickens found herself one on one with the goalkeeper. Karissa Hill started the offensive push with a feed that Starns tapped back to Nickens, who raced in and blasted the ball past Vincent for the 1-0 lead.

TCU kept rolling in the second half, putting up two scores in the middle of the frame to claim their second win of the preseason. In the 69th minute, Nickens tallied her second goal of the match. The Frogs pushed the ball deep into their offensive territory and earned a corner kick. The corner drifted wide, but was scooped up by Starns who pushed it out to Hubbard. Nickens lofted the Hubbard feed over back-up goalkeeper Sara Weaver's head.

K.D. Waters made it a 3-0 game with her fifth goal of the preseason. Waters chased down a Hubbard pass and ripped the shot into the upper right hand corner of the goal.

Nickens had a chance for the hat trick as Weaver puller her down inside the penalty box and was subsequently red carded. On the ensuing penalty kick, Nickens was unable to capitalize as she kicked the ball off the right post.

The Pioneers took seven shots, three of which made it on goal. Buchanan was there to make all three stops for the shutout.

The Frogs are set to open up the regular season on Friday at Garvey-Rosenthal. The Texas Tech Red Raiders will come to town for a 5:00 p.m. kickoff. On Sunday, the Texas A&M Aggies will visit for a 1:00 p.m. match.
