Morris has career-low round in Las Vegas tourney

LAS VEGAS -- A career-low 72 by Carrie Morris helped lead TCU to a team score of 299 and 10th place after Monday's opening round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. No. 22 TCU is one of nine top-25 teams in the field. The Frogs trail 12th-ranked and leader Tennessee by 17 shots. The Lady Vols posted a 6-under 282 and hold a three-stroke lead over No. 17 Denver. Morris, a senior from Tyler, Texas, is at even par and in a nine-way tie for 10th place. She totaled four birdies and was 2-under over the final nine holes. Morris is five strokes off the pace set by Denver's DeKatie Kempter and Tennessee's Marci Turner who shot 5-under 67s. TCU sophomore Valentine Derrey carded a 2-over-par 74. Fort Worth native Prisela Campbell, one of three freshmen in the Frogs' lineup, had a 75. Melissa Loh and Allyson Ferguson both recorded 78s.
