No. 22 TCU begins play Monday in Las Vegas

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The No. 22 TCU women's golf team returns to action Monday when it begins play at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. The Horned Frogs will be in their first tournament since posting a 14-stroke victory at the Lady Paladin Invitational (Oct. 19-21) in Greenville, S.C. This will be the third straight year TCU has played in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. This year's event is at the par 71, 6,722-yard Angel Park Golf Club in Las Vegas. The 2005 and 2006 tournaments were held at the Anthem Country Club in nearby Henderson, Nev. The 18-team field includes nine teams ranked in the top 25: No. 9 Arizona, No. 12 Tennessee, No. 13 Kent State, No. 14 Pepperdine, No. 16 Oklahoma State, No. 17 Denver, No. 22 TCU, No. 24 Stanford and No. 25 New Mexico. Three others, No. 29 BYU, No. 34 Texas A&M and No. 46 Missouri, are in the top 50. Rounding out the field are Colorado State, Eastern Washington, Long Beach State, SMU, Washington and host UNLV. TCU's five-player lineup, which includes three freshmen, will be the same that played in the Lady Paladin Invitational. Sophomore Valentine Derrey and freshman Prisela Campbell placed third and fourth, respectively, at the Lady Paladin Invitational. Derrey, who tops the Mountain West Conference with a 73.0 stroke average and is ranked 17th nationally, carded a 5-over-par 221. Campbell was at 222. Three other Frogs finished in the top 25 at the Lady Paladin Invitational. Senior Carrie Morris tied for 12th, while freshmen Allyson Ferguson and Melissa Loh were 16th and 23rd, respectively.
