Matranga keys opening round for TCU
Sept. 18, 2006 LUBBOCK, Texas -- Led by Catherine Matranga's 2-under-par 70, just two strokes off the individual lead, TCU is in fourth place out of 16 teams after Monday's opening round of the Jeannine McHaney Intercollegiate in Lubbock, Texas. Matranga is seeking her second straight individual championship. Last week, she rallied from a five-stroke deficit on the final round to overtake 10 golfers and win the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. The senior from Fort Worth is in a three-way tie for third. SMU's Kate Ackerson leads with a 2-under 68. TCU shot a 10-over-par 298 and trails San Francisco by only seven shots for the team lead. The Horned Frogs' five-player lineup includes true freshmen Megan O'Donnell and Ashley Watkins who carded a 77 and 80, respectively. Elin Emanuelsson is tied for 15th with a 74.
