Matranga keys opening round for TCU women's golf in New Mexico tourney
Sept. 12, 2006 ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Led by Catherine Matranga's 2-under-par effort through 36 holes, the TCU women's golf team is in sixth place after Monday's opening two rounds of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational. The Horned Frogs shot a 10-over-par 594 (296-298). Arizona State sits atop the leaderboard after shooting a 9-under 575. Matranga, a senior from Fort Worth, is at 2-under 144 (71-73). She is five strokes behind individual leader Jenna Pearson of South Carolina (72-67--139). TCU freshman Ashley Watkins (Sealy, Texas), playing in her first collegiate tournament, carded a 7-over 153 (76-77). Live scoring for Tuesday's final round is available at www.golfstat.com.
