Aug. 6, 2013
FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU's Angela Stanford will be part of the United States team at the 2013 Solheim Cup, beginning Aug. 16 in Parker, Colo.
Stanford, a four-time All-American (1997-00) for the Horned Frogs, will be making her fifth Solheim Cup appearance. She also earned selection in 2003, 2007, 2009 and 2011.
The Solheim Cup is a biennial match-play event for professional women's golfers representing Europe and the United States.
Based on the final U.S. Solheim Cup standings, Stanford was one of the top-eight players who automatically qualified for the team via a points race that began at the 2011 CN Canadian Women's Open. Stanford will be joined on the U.S. team by Stacy Lewis, Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr, Brittany Lincicome, Lexi Thompson, Jessica Korda and Brittany Lang. The two highest-ranked players not in the top-eight spots on the points list who qualified via the Rolex Rankings are Lizette Salas and Morgan Pressel.
Stanford is in her 13th year on the LPGA Tour. She is currently 16th in the Rolex Player of the Year rankings.
Stanford has won five LPGA events in her career with 72 top-10 finishes, including four this year. She tied for fourth at the 2013 U.S. Women's Open.
