Campbell's 72 leads TCU at NCAA Championship

ALBUQUERQUE -- Freshman Prisela Campbell's even par and career-low 72 led the way for TCU as the Horned Frogs are tied for 13th after Tuesday's opening round of the NCAA Women's Golf National Championship in Albuquerque. Campbell's 72 bettered her previous low round of 73 set on three occasions, most recently at the NCAA Central Regional. She had a team-high three birdies on the day and is tied for 15th individually, five strokes behind leader Nannette Hill of Wake Forest. A Fort Worth Fossil Ridge High School graduate, Campbell is one of three freshmen in TCU's five-player lineup. Melissa Loh, also a freshman for the Frogs, carded a 74. Senior Carrie Morris had two birdies en route to a 75. Valentine Derrey and Allyson Ferguson posted a 77 and 78, respectively. Hill's 67 tied a University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course record. Four golfers are two shots back. USC holds the team lead after a 4-under 284. The second-ranked Trojans have a five-stroke advantage over No. 3 UCLA and No. 10 Auburn. No. 26 TCU's 298 has it 14 shots behind USC. The Frogs are in a five-way tie with No. 28 Texas, No. 44 UC Davis, No. 8 Arkansas and No. 6 Purdue. Top-ranked Duke is a stroke behind at 299.
