Derrey takes the lead at NCAA Central Regional

AUSTIN, Texas -- TCU sophomore Valentine Derrey's second-round 70 Friday has her atop the leaderboard, while the Horned Frogs are third after 36 holes at the NCAA Central Regional. Saturday's final round at the University of Texas Golf Course will begin at 8:10 a.m. for TCU. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com. Derrey is at 7-under-par 137 to hold a one-stroke advantage over first-day leader Maria Jose Uribe of UCLA. Purdue's Maria Hernandez is two shots back. Derrey's second round was highlighted by an eagle on the par 5, 455-yard fifth hole. The Paris, France, native also had three birdies. She did not have a bogey through the opening 32 holes. The Frogs shot a 300 Thursday and are at 9-over 585, nine shots behind leader and third-ranked UCLA. No. 6 Purdue is six strokes behind the Bruins with a 582. TCU, ranked 30th, was seeded 11th in the 21-team field. Entering Saturday's final round, TCU has a 17-stroke cushion over ninth-place LSU to cement its second straight trip to the NCAA National Championship. The top eight teams advance to Albuquerque May 20-23. Allyson Ferguson, one of three freshmen in the Frogs' five-player lineup, carded a second-round 75 and is tied for 13th with a 2-over-par 146. Like Derrey, Ferguson had an eagle on the fifth hole. Carrie Morris, TCU's lone senior, shot a 76 and is at 6-over 150 to tie for 32nd.
