TCU places three on All-Mountain West Conference Team
April 22, 2007
ST. GEORGE, Utah -- Three players from TCU's 2007 Mountain West Conference championship women's golf team have received all-conference honors.
Seniors Camille Blackerby and Catherine Matranga as well as freshman Valentine Derrey were named to the All-MWC team. The Frogs tied BYU for the most selections. UNLV and New Mexico were also represented on the squad with one player each.
Blackerby has received her third all-conference selection. The Breckenridge, Texas, native was first-team All-Conference USA in 2004 and 2005. Also a three-time Academic All-American, Blackerby has a career-best 75.0 stroke average, including six top-10 efforts, to rank eighth in the MWC this season.
Matranga also has a personal-best stroke average with a 73.9 mark to place third in the MWC. She has six top-10 finishes and nine in the top 20. Matranga, from Fort Worth, was a second-team All-Conference USA pick in 2005.
A native of Paris, France, Derrey is sixth in the MWC with a 74.4 average. She's the first TCU freshman since Blackerby in 2004 to be named all-conference. Derrey placed in the top 14 in five of her six spring tournaments, including winning the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
It's the third time in the last seven years that TCU has placed three golfers on an all-conference team.
TCU will learn its postseason destination on April 30. The Frogs will be making their 12th consecutive NCAA appearance. The NCAA Regionals begin May 10.
