TCU Holds First-Round Lead At MW Championship

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. -- Sanna Nuutinen's 73 led defending champion TCU into a three-stroke lead after Friday's opening round of the Mountain West Championship. The 35th-ranked Horned Frogs, seeking their third MW title in seven years in the league, carded a 304. No. 45 San Diego State is at 307. Nuutinen shot par on 17 of 18 holes and is fourth individually, just one shot off the pace set by New Mexico's Manon De Roey, Colorado State's Christina Spinzig and San Diego State's Christine Wong. Brooke Beeler and Alexandra Bonetti added 76s for TCU and are tied for eighth. Beeler closed her day with a birdie on the 18th hole. Bonetti had two birdies. TCU freshman April McCoy birdied two of her opening eight holes en route to a 79. Rachel Raastad shot par on the back nine as she posted an 80.
