TCU remains in second at MWC Championship

ST. GEORGE, Utah -- The No. 24 TCU women's golf team remained in second place, six strokes behind leader and 15th-ranked BYU, after Friday's second round of the Mountain West Conference Championship in St. George, Utah.

Both the Horned Frogs and Cougars carded 22-over-par 306s. No. 17 New Mexico is in third, 12 strokes behind TCU.

TCU freshman Valentine Derrey shot a 1-over 72 to move into a tie for second. The Paris, France, native has a 36-hole score of 6-over 148. She will enter Saturday's final round two strokes behind leader Rachel Newren of BYU.

Catherine Matranga, one of three TCU seniors in the tournament, shot a 78 after tying for the first-round lead with a 72. Matranga is four shots off the pace, tied for fourth overall.

Fellow Frog seniors Camille Blackerby and Elin Emanuelsson have posted identical scores of 76-78 in the opening two rounds and are tied for 11th with 12-over-par 154s.
