TCU has strong second round at MWC Championship

ALBUQUERQUE -- TCU's 10-over-par 302 was a 22-stroke improvement over its opening-round effort as play continued Friday at the Mountain West Conference Women's Golf Championship. The 27th-ranked Horned Frogs are in fourth place with a 626 entering Saturday's final round. No. 22 and host New Mexico is at 5-over 589 through 36 holes for a 14-shot lead over No. 30 BYU. The Frogs' 302 was the third-lowest score on the day. All five Frogs dropped their scores by at least three strokes from Thursday's opening round. Valentine Derrey provided the largest differential as she carded a 1-over-par 74, TCU's low score on the day, after a first-round 82. She is tied for 15th. Melissa Loh, one of three freshmen in the Frogs' five-player lineup, had a second-round 75 and is in 10th place with a 154. No TCU player shot above a 78. The Lobos have three of the top four individuals with Britney Choy, at 1-under 145, holding a two-stroke lead. Live scoring of Saturday's final round is available at www.golfstat.com.
