Women's Golf Tees off at the Texas A&M Mo-Morial Invitational

Cypress, Texas - Texas A&M and Blackhorse Golf Club in Cypress, Texas will play host to the 11th annual Texas A&M "Mo"Morial Invitational March 1-2. The Horned Frog women's golfers, along with a field of 13 other teams, set out today in a 54-hole stroke play format, with 36 holes the first day and 18 tomorrow. A&M and TCU are joined by Baylor, BYU, Kansas, Arkansas Little-Rock, Indiana, Kansas State, Missouri, Louisville, Northwestern, SMU, Texas Tech, UTEP, and Arkansas. Senior Brooke Tull and freshmen Camille Blackerby, Stacey Bieber, Elin Emanuelsson, and Catherine Matranga represent TCU.

Last season at Blackhorse, Baylor's Melanie Hagewood took top individual honors, leading Baylor to a seven-stroke win in the team race. TCU finished tied for seventh, while Brooke Tull tied for third inidvidually.

The event is named for former A&M standout Monica Welsh, who died in a car accident in 1992. Welsh, a four-year letterwinner from 1978-82, still shares teh school record for low round with a 58 and was a two-time TAIAW all-state selection.
