Feb. 17, 2013
PARRISH, Fla. -- The TCU women's golf team will look to defend its 2012 Central District Invitational championship when it begins play Monday at this year's event.
The 13th-annual Central District Invitational, featuring two rounds and 36 holes Monday and 18 holes Tuesday, will be held at the par 72, 6,099-yard River Wilderness Country Club. Michigan State is hosting the event. Live scoring will be available via GolfStat.com. Monday's play begins with an 8 a.m. EST shotgun start.
The Horned Frogs claimed the title last season after rallying from a two-stroke final-round deficit to defeat No. 25 Oklahoma by one shot. TCU's final-round 296 was highlighted by Brooke Beeler's 72 and April McCoy's 73. With a 2-over 218, Sanna Nuutinen finished sixth to lead the Horned Frogs.
Joining No. 53 TCU and the host Spartans in this year's field are No. 14 Vanderbilt, No. 25 Iowa State, No. 32 Denver, No. 37 SMU, Augusta State, Chattanooga, Georgetown, Kent State, Minnesota and UCF.
In its most recent tournament, TCU was fourth at last week's Lady Puerto Rico Classic. It was the Horned Frogs' best showing of the 2012-13 campaign. Nuutinen recorded 73s each round to finish eighth overall. Alexandra Bonetti shot a final-round 74 for a career-best 12th-place result.
TCU's lineup for the Central District Invitational will include Nuutinen, Bonetti, Maymon, McCoy and Maxoutopoulis. Nuutinen, a junior from Helsinki, Finland, is the lone upperclassman. Bonetti, McCoy and Maxoutopoulis are sophomores, while Maymon is a freshman.
Nuutinen, ranked 108th nationally, has a team-best 74.6 stroke average. McCoy is second with a 75.3 mark.
Bonetti, the lone Horned Frog to play in all five tournaments this season, is third with a 76.3 average. Maymon is at 76.8 with Maxoutopoulis at 77.0.
