Feb. 12, 2011
FORT WORTH, Texas -- The 30th-ranked TCU women's golf team opens its spring season Sunday at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
The Horned Frogs are playing in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic for the sixth time in seven seasons.
This year's 54-hole event is being held at the par 72, 6,300-yard Rio Mar Beach Resort. Sunday's play will begin with a 6 a.m. CST shotgun start. Live scoring is available at www.Golfstat.com.
The 18-team field includes 13 squads ranked in the top 50 with three in the top 10, including No. 1 Alabama.
When last in action, closing out its fall season, TCU won the team championship while Horned Frog junior Brooke Beeler captured medalist honors at The Alamo Invitational in San Antonio.
It was TCU's first tournament win since the 2007 Lady Paladin Invitational in Greenville, S.C., and the Horned Frogs' 12th tournament title under head coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin.
Beeler recorded her first collegiate tournament championship. It was also the first title by a Horned Frog since Valentine Derrey won the 2007 Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
Beeler's opening-round 67 at The Alamo Invitational was one stroke shy of teammate Prisela Campbell's school record 66.
The Horned Frogs recorded a top-six finish in all four of their fall tournaments.
Three Horned Frogs are in the top five in the Mountain West Conference in stroke average.
TCU's lineup for the Lady Puerto Rico Classic will feature Beeler, Raastad, Loh, Nuutinen and Katy Cardno.
