Women's Golf Kicks off Spring Season in New Orleans
Feb. 6, 2004 Fort Worth, Texas - Head Coach Angie Larkin will bring her young squad to New Orleans, La., early next week to compete in the Nokia Sugar Bowl Tulane Invitational. The men's and women's tournament will feature women's teams from Tulane, LSU, UNO, Alabama, Campbell, East Carolina, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State; the five TCU representatives will be sophomore Traci Robison and freshmen Stacey Bieber, Camille Blackerby, Elin Emanuelsson, and Catherine Matranga. The tournament commences Monday, Feb. 9 with 36 holes followed by 18 the next day. Last year, the Horned Frogs finished second to Tulane, shooting plus-58 for the tourney. Robison managed an 89-79-84 on the course, tied for 41st. In the fall, Robison (Arlington, Texas) competed in all four tournaments, putting up a 78.67 average and a 73-230 best showing, finishing tied for 12th in the Oregon State Invitaional. Matranga (Fort Worth, Texas) and Blackerby (Breckenridge, Texas) each qualified for three tournaments, Matranga averaging a 77.78 with her best finish tied at 18th in the Lady Paladin Invitational and best performance a 71-226, while Blackerby managed 75.44 average and 70-221 best, finishing 15th in the Shootout at the Legends. Bieber (Winnipeg, Canada) and Emanuelsson (Naka, Sweden) competed in a tournament apiece. Bieber averaged a 80.33, finishing tied for 45th in the Oregon State Invitational, shooting 78-241; Emanuelsson averaged 81.67, her best a 78-245 and a tie for 73rd in the Dick McGuire Invitational.
