Horned Frogs place fifth in Hawaii

Poipu, Kauai, Hawaii -- The TCU women's golf team closed its fall season Thursday with a fifth-place finish at the Aloha Purdue Collegiate, played at the par-70, 6,183-yard Kiahuna Golf Club. The Horned Frogs shot a final round 291, the second-best score on the day. No. 17 and host Purdue captured the team title by seven strokes over eighth-ranked Pepperdine. Catherine Matranga was the top Horned Frog individual, improving her score each round to tie for 13th individually with a 14-over-par 224 (78-75-71). Freshman Ashley Watkins placed in a tie for 21st. Her final round 72 represented a career-best on the collegiate level, as was her 54-hole score of 227 (77-78-72). UNLV's Natasha Krishna took medalist honors with a 2-over 212. Purdue's Maria Hernandez shot a final round 66, the lowest individual score of the tournament, to move into second place with a three-round score of 215. The Frogs resume play when they open their spring season Feb. 19-20 at the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla. Team Scores TCU Scores
