Heavy Winds Blow Frogs Down Eight Spots
May 6, 2005
LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 28 TCU women's golf team dropped eight spots to finish the second round at 18th at the 2005 NCAA Women's Golf Central Regional today at The Rawls Course, in Lubbock, Texas. First place is bound up between fourteams as Baylor, Texas A&M, Missouri and Auburn at a 27-over 603. First round leader Texas dropped to a tie for seventh.
After yesterday's hour fog delay, the second round first tee off began on schedule at 7:30 a.m. at both the first and 10th hole. TCU started at the first hole.
TCU now lies 20 strokes outside the top eight cutoff with a 51-over 627. Winds up to 20 miles an hour were most unkind to the Horned Frogs, who shot a collective 40-over today as compared to the just 11-over score of the first round.
Sophomore Catherine Matranga continues to lead the Frogs after escaping the second round with the least damage of the team. She still had one of her toughest days of the year, shooting an eight-over 80 after bogeying eight holes throughout the day. She sits highest for TCU at a tie for 42nd (10-over 154).
Sophomore Camille Blackerby, who was co-leader of the Frogs after day one, posted a steady two-over score for the first 12 holes. Her final five resulted in four bogeys and a double-bogey, leaving her tied for 49th with an 11-over 155 total (nine-over for the day).
Senior D'Rae Ward follows with a 13-over, 157. She shot a 10-over score on the day, placing the only Horned Frog birdie of the day on the fifth hole.
Sophomore Elin Emanuelsson shot a 13-over 85 to bring her total to 161 (+17). After carding even par on the first two holes, she tripped on a double-bogey that stayed with her all day as she added 12 bogeys during the second round.
Sophomore Stacey Bieber rounded out the Horned Frogs with a 14-over day, having set out on the wrong foot with a double-bogey to start the round. She now tallies a 21-over 165.
The final round of the 2005 NCAA Central Regional will conclude on tomorrow with the top eight teams advancing, as well as the top two-individuals not on the top eight teams also securing a spot in the Championships.
There will be no ties at the Regionals, with all being decided in the third round through playoffs. The 2005 NCAA Central Regional will be covered by livescoring available at www.golfstat.com throughout competition.
