Ward Wins By One, Frogs Fall By One

DADE CITY, Fla. - Despite a 25-foot putt that gave sophomore D'Rae Ward Conference USA Championships medalist honors, the TCU Horned Frogs finished one stroke behind South Florida in the team race. The Horned Frogs posted a 15-over-par 303 on Wednesday, the team's best round of the tournament, but the Bulls' tourney-best 302 gave the host team the crown. The Horned Frogs made the turn at plus-four, but were 11 over on the back nine. For Ward, it was her third tournament title of the spring and her career. She posted a two-over 74 on the final day and ended with a 224 (+8) for the event. Ward edged a pair of South Florida players, Katie Ruhe and Jill Crowe for the one-shot title. Following the tournament, Ward earned second-team All-Conference USA honors. Junior Brooke Tull, the 2002 C-USA medalist, tied for fourth place overall with a 54-hole score of 226. She joined Ward with a two-over 74 on the final day. For her efforts, Tull was named Conference USA Player of the Year and first-team all-conference. TCU senior Shannon Barr also had an outstanding three days, bringing home sixth place for the Frogs. She notched a 75 in the final round, which gave her a 228 (+12) for the tourney. Stephanie Godare, who was named to the all-freshman team, posted an 80 on Wednesday and a 238 for the tournament. She tied for 21st place with her 22-over-par score. Fellow freshman Traci Robison shared 31st with a score of 245. Robison carded an 81 in the final round.
