TCU finishes fifth at Northwestern Invitational

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. -- The TCU women's golf team shot a final round 4-over-par 292 Tuesday to finish fifth out of 14 teams in the Northwestern Invitational held at the Gary Player Signature Course in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
The Horned Frogs' 292 tied for the second-lowest score on the day. It enabled TCU, ranked 35th nationally, to post its fifth top-five finish in the last seven tournaments.
With a 21-over-par 885, the Horned Frogs were just one stroke behind fourth place and No. 28 Baylor (884). TCU was four shots ahead of No. 32 UC Irvine who finished sixth.
No. 23 Kent State captured the team title with a 17-under-par 847, 11 strokes ahead of No. 25 SMU.
Camille Blackerby's 2-under 70 was the low score Tuesday for TCU. Blackerby's 6-over 222 total placed her in a tie for 24th individually. Catherine Matranga was the top Frog finisher, tying for 14th with a 4-over 220.
TCU junior Stacey Bieber shot an even-par 72 for the second time in the tournament to finish at 9-over 225.
Kent State's Tara Delaney and Kira Meixner tied for medalist honors with 7-under 209s.
TCU returns to action April 20-22 at the Mountain West Conference Championship in St. George, Utah.
