Horned Frogs Climb Five Spots to Sixth in Austin

AUSTIN, Texas - The TCU women's golf team improved five places today at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas. The second round team performance of 19-over par helped the Frogs leap over several teams en route to their pit stop at sixth place.
Sophomore Camille Blackerby came on strong today, moving from a tie for 26th to a two-way tie for second with a season-best one-under par second round of 71 to leave her six-over par. Sophomore Catherine Matranga finished just behind her teammate at a two-way tie for fourth, having carded a three-over par 75 to leave her with a seven-over total.
Senior D'Rae Ward had a much smoother second round, moving her up to tie for 69th with a 79, leaving her 22-over par going into the final day. Sophomore Elin Emanuelsson moves into the third day 23-over par and tied for 76th. Junior Traci Robison maintained a steady score by shooting 84-85 over the two days and enters the final day tied for 84th.
No. 17 Arkansas claimed the top spot after No. 61 Nebraska's first round surprise fell flat in the second round. Nebraska shot a dismal 334 and fell to ninth, while No. 1 Duke steadied itself with a duplicate score on the second day (307). Arkansas' Stacy Lewis claimed the top honors individually with her three-over total score.
The University of Texas hosts the invitational at the University of Texas Golf Club, a 6,323 yard, 72-par course to be played in 54 holes, 18 each of the three days. The 17-team field features 13 teams in the nation's top 50, including No. 1 Duke, No. 7 Arizona State, No. 8 Oklahoma State, No. 12 Missouri, No. 17 Arkansas, No. 21 Tulsa, No. 24 Texas, No. 26 SMU, No. 31 California, No. 34 Baylor, No. 37 Texas A&M, and No. 39 Oklahoma.
Individually, eight of the nation's top 20 golfers challenge the TCU golfers. They include No. 1 Louise Stahle of Arizona State, No. 2 Karin Sjodin of Oklahoma State, No. 3 Brittany Lang of Duke, No. 4 Elizabeth Janangelo of Duke, No. 9 Annie Thurman of Oklahoma State, No. 13 Maria Ohlsson of Missouri, No. 17 Stacy Lewis of Arkansas, and No. 19 Sofie Andersson of California.
Senior D'Rae Ward (76.41 season avg, 68 career low), junior Traci Robison (78.81 season avg, 73 career low), sophomores Camille Blackerby (75.57 season avg, 70 career low), Elin Emanuelsson (77.18 season avg, 72 career low), and Catherine Matranga (76.14 season avg, 70 career low) represent the Frogs.
