Two TCU Freshmen Earn Top 20s as Frogs Place Sixth

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The TCU women's golf team, which featured four true freshmen and one sophomore in the lineup, opened the 2004 spring season with a sixth-place finish at the 2004 NOKIA Sugar Bowl/Tulane Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. Two Horned Frog freshmen, Camille Blackerby and Elin Emanuelsson, earned top-20 finishes to pace the squad. TCU completed the tournament with a 54-hole total of 966, a score that was 102-over-par. TCU shot a final-round 329 on a chilly and rainy day in Louisiana. Tulane, the host school, claimed the tourney title with an 895 (+31). The Green Wave finished 34 strokes ahead of second-place LSU at the English Turn Golf and Country Club. Blackerby, who hails from Breckenridge, Texas, posted her third straight top-20 finish dating back to the fall season. Blackerby wound up with a three-round score of 235 (+19) after recording an 80 on the final day. For Emanuelsson, it was her first career top-20 placement. The native of Sweden tied for 19th overall with a 24-over-par 240. Fellow freshman Catherine Matranga tied for 30th place with a 30-over score of 246. Stacey Bieber was three two strokes behind Matranga after an 81, the Frogs' second best round on Tuesday. Bieber carded a 248 (+32) for the tournament. The lone sophomore, Traci Robison, had a final-round 89 to finish in a share of 45th with a 265 (+49).
