Oct. 1, 2011
AUBURN, Ala. - TCU captured a 3-2 victory in Equitation on the Flat Saturday, but it wasn't enough as defending National Champion Auburn dropped the Horned Frogs at the Auburn University Horse Center, 14-6.
Auburn, who is coming off a season in which they claimed both the Hunt Seat National Championship and the overall National Championship, narrowly defeated the Frogs in Horsemanship with an overall team score of 365-362.
"I'm really proud of how well this group of ladies rebounded on the Flat today," said head coach Logan Fiorentino. "Auburn is the defending National Champion and to take the Flat portion of today's competition is something to be very excited about and proud of. It shows the type of potential this team has. I look forward to that potential being realized."
Returning Honorable Mention All-America honoree Callie Selchau got the Frogs rolling early Saturday on the Flat, defeating Grace Socha, 77-69. With the win, Selchau earned her second MVP of the season and third of her career. Freshman Kaitlin Perry and junior Haley Jacobi continued their winning ways Saturday in the event, scoring victories over Piper Donnelly and Jennifer Delman, respectively. Both Perry and Jacobi improved their season records to 2-1 on the year.
On the Western side, returning All-America honoree Courtney Chown moved to 2-0 on the year in Horsemanship with a 77.5-77 victory over Stephanie Rucci. Lexie Estrada recorded the other point for TCU in the event, downing Chelsea Zillner, 74.5-63. With the win, Chown has now won 11-straight regular-season matches dating back to last spring and is 13-1-0 in her last 14 outings.
Junior Kolby Simonson led the Frogs in Reining, dropping Morgan Burns, 71-70.5. The Colorado native had an impressive start to her season this weekend, going 2-0 in Reining with one MVP accolade. Child and Katelyn Gray appeared to have scored for the Purple and White as well in the event, but dropped close decisions to Cheyenne Cracraft and Stephanie Rucci, respectively.
With the loss, the Purple and White dropped to 0-3 on the season, while Auburn improved to 2-0.
