FORT WORTH, Texas - No. 8 TCU cruised to a 6-3 victory over No. 6 Baylor Friday night in front of an electric crowd at the Fort Worth Stock Show in John Justin Arena.
"Tonight went very well for us," said Western Head Coach Kindel Walter. "The girls did a great job against a very strong Baylor squad. They were focused and ready to go. This should set us up well for the remaining of the season. I was really proud of Samantha Bayer and Katie Gray in how they competed tonight. They both rode extremely well in going 2-0 in competition."
The Horned Frogs, who improved to 5-1 in Western this season and 4-0 in conference play, dominated the Bears in Reining Friday, claiming a 3-1 decision. The Purple and White outscored Baylor by a score of 345-338. Sophomore Samantha Bayer, who went 2-0 on the day, shined in the event, claiming her first MOP of the year. Overall, the Frogs outscored Baylor, 707-699, while improving to 2-1 all-time inside John Justin Arena.
Bayer opened her impressive night in Reining downing Claire Edwards, 69.5-65.5. Also victorious was Alexi Child and Katelyn Gray who defeated Parris Rice and Olivia Rogers, respectively.
In Horsemanship, Bayer clinched the TCU victory with a 75-72 decision over Bryn Lindley. With the win, the Oregon native claimed her second win of the season in the event. Freshman Erin Gillette downed Gillian Chant, 74-71, while Gray rounded out the top-performers with a 70-68.5 victory over Chelsea Retmier. Gillette scored a personal-best on Flash Friday night, while Gray improved her record this season to 3-3-0 overall, including 3-1 in Big 12 action.
TCU will continue action against Baylor tomorrow in Springtown. Start time is set for 2:00 p.m. CT.
