The 9-1 TCU Lady Frogs are off to their best 10-game start in school history and will be looking for win No. 10 when they host 3-7 North Texas Wednesday afternoon at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum at 2 p.m. UNT holds the historical edge on TCU with a 14-8 record, and it took the last meeting Nov. 29, 2000, by a 63-59 score at DMC. The game marks the return of the Lady Frogs' Janice Dziuk, who is now an assistant coach for North Texas. Dziuk holds the TCU career scoring and rebounding records. The Lady Eagles come in riding a six-game losing streak. Their last loss came at the hands of SMU Dec. 21 by a 70-66 count. A pair of double digit scorers pace the UNT offense in Jill Medlock and Kim Blanton. Medlock averages 12.2 points per game, while Blanton tosses in 11.5 per outing. Jamie Armstrong is close to double figures with a 9.6 average. Medlock is also a deadly threat from three-point range, knocking down 42.9 percent on the season, and she is a perfect 27-for-27 from the free throw line. Blanton and Armstrong lead the way on the boards with averages of 6.4 and 5.9. Kelsie Edwards is also a solid rebounder with 5.7 per game.
TCU'S LAST TIME OUT
Six Lady Frogs scored in double figures Monday evening, as No. 19 TCU crushed the Lamar Cardinal, 95-50, at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. With the victory, TCU moved to 9-1 on the year, marking its best 10-game start in school history. Lamar dropped to 2-6 on the year with the loss. Ashley Davis' three-pointer seven seconds into the game gave TCU the lead for the remainder of the contest. The Lady Frogs went on a 10-0 run in the first half after leading 8-4 with 18:22 showing on the clock. The Cardinal responded with a 7-0 tear of its own, but the Lady Frogs quickly saw their lead hit 23 at 36-13 after an Ebony Shaw layup at the 7:32 mark. Kim Ortega scored the final bucket of the half, giving TCU a 53-25 lead heading into the intermission. In the second stanza, the Lady Frog advantage continued to swell and hit 30 only 24 seconds in after another lay-in by Shaw. After holding a 76-36 edge with 12:46 to play, the Purple and White scored 13 unanswered points to take its largest lead of the game, 89-36. The TCU offense calmed down during the final nine minutes of the game to set the final score at 95-50. Davis and Shaw led TCU in scoring with 17 apiece. Davis also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out five assists. Shaw also had seven boards and rejected two shots in 29 minutes on the hardwood. Amy Pack tallied 16 points and a season-high eight rebounds. Adrianne Ross notched 15 points and had 5 steals. Kim Ortega and Niki Newton rounded out the scoring efforts with 11 and 10 points. Ortega snagged eight rebounds as well and added four steals. Lamar's leading scorer was Rashekii Howard with 11 points in 30 minutes of play. Audrea Samuel threw in 10 as well. The Cardinal's top rebounder was Megan McDougald with five. TCU dominated on the boards, holding a 52-28 edge. The Lady Frogs also out-shot Lamar with a 49.3 percent clip (35-71) compared to the opposition's 33.3 mark (22-66). TCU also held a large advantage in fast break points with a 21-2 advantage.Niki Newton had eight points and two boards as well.
