Medley Honored by Big 12 Monday
Dec. 3, 2012
FORT WORTH, Texas - Freshman Zahna Medley was named Phillips 66 Big 12 Freshmen of the Week Monday for her efforts in leading TCU to a 2-0 record last week.
Against SMU, Medley simply could not be stopped, hitting 9-of-12 from behind the arc for a game and career-high 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting. The freshman not only tied the school and DMC record for most three's made in a single-game by Amy Sutton Porter in 1999, but also broke the all-time freshman mark of eight set by former Frog great Jill Sutton in 1998 against San Jose State. Finally, Medley also helped rewrite the Big 12 record books as her nine three's are tied for the fourth-most in conference history. Only three other players in conference history have hit one more three in a single-game. Her nine three's are also tied for the most in the NCAA this season.
She came back Sunday afternoon and had another solid outing as her stat line read seven points, three rebounds and two assists versus Houston. For the week, Medley hit .423 (11-of-26) from the field and .588 (10-of-17) from the three-point line. Overall, she averaged 17.0 points per game and 4.0 boards in TCU's victories over SMU and Houston, respectively.
The Horned Frogs will return to the court Wednesday against UTSA. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. CT from the DMC.
