ABOUT THE GAME
The TCU Lady Frogs are spending Thanksgiving 2004 in Honolulu, Hawaii, taking part in the University of Hawai'i's 26th annual Rainbow Wahine Classic. The eight-team tournament will be played over Nov. 26-28 at the Stan Sheriff Center. TCU matches up with California for only the second time in school history in the first round Nov. 26 at 4:40 p.m. CST. The first meeting came Dec. 21, 1989, at the Golden Bear Classic, which ended in a 94-55 win for California. Third-ranked Georgia and Idaho square off in the first game of the tournament at 2:30 p.m. Utah and No. 14 Michigan State tangle with one another at 6:50 p.m. and the Hawai'i-Santa Clara contest concludes the first day of play at 9 p.m.
TCU'S LAST TIME OUT
The TCU women's basketball team rebounded from its loss to Miami (Fla.) Sunday by downing Sam Houston State in its home opener, 88-63, at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum Monday night. The Lady Frogs upped their record to 2-1 on the year, while Sam Houston dropped to 0-2. TCU opened the game by going on a 19-0 run, not allowing the Bearkats to score until the 12:14 mark. Senior Sandora Irvin ended the game with 20 points, a dozen boards, six blocks and three steals in 25 minutes of action. Sophomore Adrianne Ross tossed in 17 on 4-of-10 shooting and a 6-for-8 effort from the free-throw line. She had a team-high six assists as well. Classmate Ashley Davis was the Lady Frogs' other double digit scorer with 13, three of which came on three-pointers. Three Lady Frogs scored their first points with the Purple and White. Redshirt freshman Jenna Lohse, junior transfer Vanessa Clementino and true freshman Ashley Goodwin all scored in the game. TCU owned the paint with a 36-16 advantage and forced SHSU into 30 turnovers, which was converted into 38 points for the Lady Frogs. TCU had just 14 miscues in the game.
CALIFORNIA'S LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Bears of California enter Friday's game in Honolulu having played only once this season. Cal defeated Navy 87-55 in Berkeley, Calif., Nov. 21 to open its 2004-05 campaign. Kristin Iwanaga led the Golden Bears with 15 points, making all three of her three-point attempts and all six at the free-throw line. Kiki Williams and Jessica Lawson had 11 points each as well.
