FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU women's basketball team capped off a successful offseason training program with the second annual "Night of Champions" which took place October 8-10. Associate head coach Larry Tidwell coached Pure Energy to victory in the team event.
Team Pure Energy, which featured four newcomers, Grace Gantt, Candace Baldwin, Ashley Browning and Niki Newton, improved their pre-training total in the four events by 420 pounds. The squat proved to be the key event for the team, as a 205-pound improvement carried the team to victory.
"We were really moving the iron," Tidwell said. "And we took no prisoners. It was an outstanding effort by all four members of the team."
Assistant coach Lonnette Hall's team of Quinn Tedder, Ashanti Nix, DeeDee Favors and Sandora Irvin placed second by besting their previous total by 295 pounds. Fellow assistant Tonya Benton's squad of Tricia Payne, Amy Pack, Ebony Shaw and Lindsey Prewitt had an overall lifting gain of 255 pounds.
The four events in the competition included the squat, bench press, incline and hang clean. Baldwin was the overall champion in the squat, maxing out at 325 pounds. She also was the most improved in the event, raising her total by 75 pounds.
