FORT WORTH—The TCU women's basketball team held its first official full team practice of the 2009-10 season Friday afternoon inside the Ed and Rae Schollmaier Basketball Complex. Friday marked the first day college basketball teams could hold their first full team workouts of the new season.

All teams had been limited to only two hours of team practice per week for the past month prior to Friday.

Head coach Jeff Mittie and his staff welcomed a group of 12 players to the Schollmaier court, including eight Lady Frogs who helped the team reach NCAA Tournament play for the eighth time in nine years last season. That team posted a 20-11 overall record and finished third in the Mountain West Conference standings with a 13-3 league mark.

Four freshmen—Hannah Christian, Starr Crawford, DeLisa Gross and Ida Tryggedsson—make up the group of new players on the Lady Frog roster.

The team sprinted out of the gate Friday with a high intensity, physical workout.

“Today was a good, physical practice for the first day,” Mittie said following the workout. “You can already tell that we improved our depth in the offseason.”

The squad will spend a good portion of its time focusing on defense in the early going, mainly because of a returning veteran core in place featuring the top-five scorers from last season.

“We have a good group here that already understands our offensive concepts, so that’s why you will see us challenging this team defensively early,” Mittie said. “We need to find a couple defensive stoppers from this group, and some of these newcomers may really help us in that area from what I’ve seen so far this fall.”

Preseason workouts continue throughout the weekend for the Lady Frogs, as they prepare for their Nov. 15 season opener against Houston Baptist at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. Prior to the meeting with HBU, TCU will play host to Cameron University for an exhibition contest at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 11 that will be open to the public.

Fans are encouraged to renew their season tickets or purchase season tickets online at GoFrogs.com or contact the TCU Athletics Ticket Office at (817) 257-FROG. The TCU Athletics Ticket Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
