TCU to Host Schollmaier Basketball Complex Dedication Friday
March 31, 2004 FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU will officially dedicate the Ed & Rae Schollmaier Basketball Complex with a ceremony on Friday, Apr. 2 at 12:30 p.m. Media members are invited to attend the dedication and receive tours of the new facility from TCU head women's basketball coach Jeff Mittie and head men's basketball coach Neil Dougherty. The Ed & Rae Schollmaier Basketball Complex reflects TCU's commitment to elevating Horned Frog basketball to national prominence. At a cost of more than $5 million, this facility provides a first-class environment for TCU student-athletes and coaches. The 22,000-square-foot complex features two NCAA regulation practice courts, office space for both coaching staffs, meeting rooms, a weight room and a lobby. "This facility makes a huge statement to the commitment we have towards our basketball programs," said TCU Athletics Director Eric Hyman. "The money for this project was raised through private donations and endowments and there is no cost to the university. That speaks volumes for the TCU community, especially Ed and Rae Schollmaier, to raise this money in this economic climate." "This building is going to be a huge asset in the development of our student-athletes," Mittie said. "We're very appreciative of those individuals who are helping to further our programs." "This is truly a first-class facility," Dougherty said. "I am committed to building a nationally-recognized and respected Division I basketball program at TCU. Construction of this practice facility is an important step toward achieving this goal. We appreciate those who stepped up and made this complex a reality." Ground was broken in July of 2003, and the basketball courts were available for use in early March. Both the men's and women's coaching staffs have now officially moved their offices into the building. The practice facility is located just southwest of Daniel-Meyer Coliseum at 3000 Stadium Drive. Media planning to attend the dedication should contact TCU Assistant Director of Athletics Media Relations Matt Freed at (817) 257-5377 prior to the event.
