Lady Frogs earn fourth seed; brace for Wyoming in MWC Tournament
March 4, 2006 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - TCU, which tied for third place in the regular season standings, will be seeded fourth at the 2006 Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Championships, the league announced Saturday. The Lady Frogs will face the fifth-seeded Wyoming Cowgirls (20-7, 10-6) on Wednesday night at 9:30 p.m. (CST)/8:30 p.m. (MST) in Denver, Colo. The game will be televised by CSTV. New Mexico (21-8, 11-5) and TCU (17-10, 11-5) tied for third place in the regular-season standings, but the Lobos earned the No. 3 seed via the tie-breaker. The two teams split their regular-season series, but New Mexico was 1-1 against conference champion BYU, compared to TCU at 0-2 versus the Cougars. BYU enters the Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Championship as the No. 1 seed for the first time in league history. Utah (21-6, 12-4) is the No. 2 seed for the third consecutive year, finishing one game behind BYU for the regular season title. The MWC Championship will be held at Denver's Pepsi Center, March 7-11. Wyoming takes the fifth seed, while UNLV (17-10, 9-7) will play at the No. 6 position. Air Force (13-14, 4-12) earned its second-consecutive No. 7 seed after defeating Colorado State on Saturday. The Rams (8-19, 2-14) take the No. 8 spot, while San Diego State (8-19, 2-12) is the No. 9 seed. Colorado State will face San Diego State in the opening-round game on Tuesday, March 7 at 5 p.m. (CST). On Wednesday, BYU will face the winner of the No. 8/No. 9 opening-round game.
